The Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry (Also known as Pedodontics) works for the purpose of achieving a high and ethical standard of practice, promotion of education and research in Pediatric dentistry. The aim of the Pediatric dentistry in the BDS program is to introduce students to basic principles of Pediatric care and teachings through lectures, workshops, and clinical rotations. Pediatric Dentistry Clinical instructions is offered in the third, and fourth years (Part 1 & Part 2) as a dental graduate student. Full time Pediatric Dentistry Master’s program (Post Graduate Course) which is a three-year continuous full-time course; is provided from the department and followed by one year Senior Residency program. All the courses are affiliated to Kerala University of Health Sciences.The department has been the first in the state of Kerala to have successfully started Post Graduate programme in Pediatric Dentistry. The department’s annual intake of Post Graduate students is two candidates per year based on the allotment by Government of Kerala.

Department is having two clinical wings; one under graduate clinic and one Post Graduate clinic. Each clinics have sound proof isolation room. Undergraduate clinic has 12 Dental Chairs and Post Graduate clinic has 8 Dental Chairs. We are expecting new space in the upcoming adjacent block which is under construction; where we are planning for Play area for kids, Patients Rest rooms and more over increasing the dental chairs so that post graduate seats can be raised to 5 or more in future.
