World Radiology Day

The celebrations commenced with an introductory talk by Dr Tinky Bose C, Professor & Head, followed by patient awareness talk of Dr. Ramesh.S. Role play titled "Debunking Myths, Embracing Reality" was performed by students, which highlighted the importance of radiology in debunking myths and misconceptions. The students participated in a puzzle-solving competition titled as "Radiology Riddles: Crack the Code". The official celebrations commenced with a welcome speech by Dr. Sunu Ramachandran, Professor (CAP). The function was inaugurated by Dr. Koshi Philip, Professor and Head of the Department of Orthodontics. Mr. Joy K Lawrence, felicitated the occasion. The resource person for the event, Dr. Asish R, Additional Professor, delivered scientific deliberations titled "Roentgen - Glimpses of Life.". The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mini M M.

കേരളപ്പിറവി ദിനാഘോഷവും മലയാള ഭാഷാ വാരാഘോഷവും നവംബർ 1 ന് തുടക്കം കുറിച്ചു.സമാപന സമ്മേളനവും സമ്മാന ദാനവും നവംബർ 7 വ്യാഴാഴ്ച 12.30ന് പിയറി ഫൌച്ചാർഡ് ഓഡിറ്റോറിയത്തിൽ നടന്നു.പ്രസ്തുത ചടങ്ങിൽ പ്രിൻസിപ്പൽ ഡോ.റീറ്റ സറീന അദ്ധ്യക്ഷത വഹിച്ചു. പ്രൊഫ.ഡോ.നടുവട്ടം ഗോപാലകൃഷ്ണൻ ഉത്ഘാടനം നിർവഹിച്ചു.അഡ്വ. എസ് കെ സുരേഷ് , ഡോ.കോശി ഫിലിപ്പ് , ഡോ.ആശിഷ് ആർ , ശ്രീ .അശോകൻ , വിദ്യാർത്ഥി പ്രതിനിധി കുമാരി . സഫ്ന ,ശ്രീ. കിഷോർ എം എസ് , ഡോ. രശ്മി.ജെ എന്നിവർ പങ്കെടുത്തു.

National Public Health Dentistry Day Observance

On behalf of National Public Health Dentistry Day the Department of Public Health Dentistry and Academic Forum, Government Dental College, Thiruvananthapuram, organized an event on the topic of "Ethical and Legal Dimensions of Research". The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Athira. S, Assistant professor in the Department of Public Health Dentistry, GDC Thiruvananthapuram . The function was inaugurated by honourable principal Dr. V.T. Beena at around 1.00 pm. The topic was presented by Dr. Vivek. S, Assistant professor in the Department of Public Health Dentistry, GDC Thrissur. Dr. Vivek. S has introduced various areas like protection of the rights of research participants, ways to enhance the research validity and maintenance of scientific or academic integrity. He also discussed the significance of gaining informed consent and the medical negligence. Around 100 participants including faculty members and students attended the event. Dr. Dithi. C, Assistant professor in the Department of Public Health Dentistry, GDC Thiruvananthapuram presented the vote of thanks and the event was concluded at 2.30 pm.

World Blood Donors Day

“GIVE BLOOD, GIVE PLASMA, SHARE LIFE, SHARE OFTEN”
World blood donors day was conducted Government Dental College, Thiruvananthapuram with an interactive session lead by Dr Asish R , Additional Professor at the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology. The program started at 1:30 pm at the Pierre Fauchard Auditorium. Dr. Ganesh S, Junior resident, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology welcomed the audience by an inaugural speech. The session included the importance of donating blood and how important it is to save one’s life. The slogans for Blood Donor introduced each year made the session more interesting. This session also included asking doubts and sharing the experience of students who had donated blood and those who hadn’t donated to speak up the reasons. Dr Ashni Anil V P, general secretary of the college union concluded the program with a vote of thanks. Overall, the session was an eye opening experience.

World Environmental Day Program

World environment day celebration were organised by NSS unit GDC TVPM. A poster competition with the theme" Our land our future, We are generation restoration was condicted for UG students. An inaugural speech was delivered by Dr Manju Mariam Stephen, followed by a flashmob by NSS volunteers. NSS unit organised an Environmental day talk by Guest speaker Dr Allan Thomas, Professor and HOD, Dept of Agricultural Extension, College of Agriculture , Vellayani about Nature's balance:Nourishing communities and sustaining our future was organised. The programme was presided by Dr V T Beena, Principal, GDC, Trivandrum. Vote of thanks was delivered by NSS programme officer Dr Aneesh S. Dr Asish R , Additional professor OMR gave the environmental day message. Varsha Prajith UG student recited a malayalam poem.

No tobacco day celebrations at GDC TVM

The Department of Public Health Dentistry of Govt. Dental College, Thiruvananthapuram conducted a dental screening and No-Tobacco Day Awareness Programme at National College, Manacaud Thiruvananthapuram on May 31, 2024, on behalf of World No Tobacco Day. The camp started at 9.00 am. Around 65 patients attended the camp. Kanishka and Kripa, final-year students, gave a health education speech about the detrimental effects of tobacco use on oral and overall health. Oral health education focused on the ill effects of tobacco use, the availability of counselling services for quitting smoking. As part of the awareness campaign, posters and booklets on the same were given.
The health education also addressed various other oral health-related issues, such as dental caries, periodontal disease, dental trauma, and malocclusion. The camp attendees were given lunch and refreshments by the college administrators .The camp concluded at 2.00 pm.

Foundation Day Program

The sixty fifth foundation day of Government Dental College, Thiruvananthapuram was celebrated on 10th February, 2024 with the active participation of the staff, students, alumni and PTA. The official ceremony was presided over by Principal Dr. V.T.Beena and took place at the Old Auditorium of Government Medical College. Sri. Kadakampally Surendran, MLA was the chief guest. The occasion was graced by the presence of Joint Director of Medical education(G), Dr Anita Balan, Ward councilor Sri. D.R. Anil, Vice Principal Dr Harshakumar. K, Alumni Association President Dr Rejula.F, Staff Welfare Society President Dr R.Bindu, PTA Vice President Smt Padmaja and others.

Senior batch students from the First batch BDS and paradental courses were honoured in the function. Awards to students for academic excellence and various arts and sports awards and endowment awards were distributed. The first ever awards instituted for Best Faculty, Best Non Teaching staff, Best Ministerial staff , Best House keeping staff and Best Teacher were awarded to employees selected based on polls received from staff and students.
There was whole hearted participation of the staff, students and alumni in the cultural events that followed the inaugural ceremony. The confluence of generations fostered the spirit of belongingness and happy home coming among the participants.

Debate on amalgam versus Composite posterior restorations

TDC research committeehad conducted 'Evidence debate on amalgam versus Composite posterior restorations- present status and future perspectives' on 13/10/23. at R. Ahammed auditorium. Dr Rejula. F, convenor, Tdc research committee delivered welcome address. Two teams were there. 'Team Amalgam' and 'Team Composite'. Each team had 6 participants. Dr Vidya K. G, Assistant professor department of CD and Endodontics, was the moderator.
Both teams discussed pros and cons of amalgam and composite based on scientific evidences.Total 190 attendees were there.

Observance of World Smile Day

The Department of Public Health Dentistry celebrated World Smile Day on October 6th 2023. A School Dental Health Program was conducted at Pierre Paul Public School, Vembayam, Thiruvananthapuram. The program started with the inaugural function in which the representatives of the school management and Principal gave a speech on the importance of healthy smile. A dental screening camp was conducted for the school children and the parents and teachers were informed about the dental problems children are having. Those who needed treatments were referred to Dental College, TVM. A Dental Health Education talk was given to children on the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene, various dental problems and treatments etc.

Oral Hygiene Day Program

As part of observing “National Oral Hygiene Day", a Dental screening camp and Awareness campaign was organized in association with Southern Railway- Thiruvananthapuram Division, SPIK(Society of Periodontists and Implantologists of Kerala) & Department of Public Health Dentistry, Government Dental college, Thiruvananthapuram at Kochuveli Railway Station on 1st August 2023. A total of 70 employees were screened in the Dental check up camp.
The National Oral Hygiene day was introduced to commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP), Dr G B Shankwalkar, who was born on 1st August.
“National Oral Hygiene Day” awareness programme was inaugurated by Dr. Sony Thomas, ACMS/TVC and awareness talk on “Oral Hygiene” steered by Dr. B. Manikandan Healthcare Convener, SPIK. Almost 75 passengers and railway employees participated in the awareness campaign.

ഡെന്റൽ കോളേജിന്റെ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ ആദ്യമായി zumba ക്ലാസ്സ്‌... ജീവനക്കാരുടെ ശാരീരകമായ ഉണർവിനും മാനസിക സംഘർഷണ ലഹൂകരണത്തിനും ആയി സ്റ്റാഫ്‌ റെക്രീയേഷൻ ക്ലബ്ബിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ജൂൺ മാസം zumba ക്ലാസ്സിനു തുടക്കമായി... ആദ്യ ക്ലാസ്സിൽ 24 പേർ പങ്കെടുത്തു... പ്രശസ്ത zumba സിൻ ആയ നീരജ് ക്ലാസുകൾക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നൽകുന്നു..

Pre monsoon cleaning drive of the campus by NSS Volunteers

The initiative were lead by NSS programme officers Dr Aneesh S and Dr Manju Stephen. NSS volunteers segregated, collected and labelled separately all the plastic and paper waste materials. Those where handed over to the house keeping staff later.

World No Tobacco Day Observance

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day on May 31st , the Department of Public Health Dentistry of Govt. Dental College Thiruvananthapuram organized an Anti-Tobacco Day Awareness Programme at John Cox Memorial CSI Institute of Technology, Kannammoola Trivandrum. A health talk on oral cancer and tobacco cessation strategies, an awareness video presentation, poster and pamphlet distribution were all part of this awareness programme. Dental hygienists organized a health education talk in the college lobby about the effects of tobacco on oral and general health, as well as how to prevent them.
